Mushrooms of the West and East

 

A growing conk mushroom of the genus Fomitopsis.


These turkey tails (Trametes versicolor) are one of the species of mushrooms that are currently being researched for medicinal uses.
Dead Man's Fingers are a spooky species in the Xylaria genus of fungi. The fruiting bodies commonly emerge at the bases of rotting trees and stumps and can sometimes resemble the fingers of a human emerging from the soil below!

This Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) specimen was found growing inside a hollowed trunk. It was a little young to harvest, but still made an excellent addition to a pork ramen dinner!
